Abstract

Traditional attendance systems in educational settings often rely on manual methods such as roll calls or sign-in sheets, which are inefficient, error-prone, and susceptible to proxy attendance. This study proposes an Automated Attendance System that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to overcome these challenges. The system uses IoT-enabled cameras to capture classroom video feeds, which are analyzed in real-time by AI-driven facial recognition algorithms to identify students. Verified attendance data is automatically recorded in a centralized database and accessible via an intuitive dashboard for instant management. By eliminating manual processes, the system improves accuracy, reduces administrative workload, and prevents fraudulent entries. A pilot implementation achieved 98.5% recognition accuracy, demonstrating the system’s reliability. Its scalable architecture and compatibility with existing educational platforms, such as Learning Management Systems, support seamless integration across diverse academic environments. The study concludes that the combination of AI and IoT provides a transformative solution for attendance management, enhancing efficiency, security, and adaptability, while offering a modern, smart alternative to traditional attendance methods.
